10 things I’ve learned from being a dancer
Over the years, dancing has taught me more than I ever imagined. Not just about the job, but about life, people, and myself. From personal growth to financial lessons, here are 10 of the most valuable things I’ve learned in my journey as a dancer:
1. Your Personality Will Make You More Money Than Your Looks
While appearance can catch someone’s attention, it’s your personality that keeps them coming back (and spending). Being approachable, confident, and authentic is far more valuable than any outfit or makeup look. A great personality builds loyalty, trust, and repeat customers.
2. You Can Learn Priceless Information From Networking With the Right Customers
Dancing isn’t just about making money; it’s also about making connections. Some customers have taught me things people pay thousands to learn. Things about business, investing, and life in general. And the best part? You get paid while soaking up knowledge. It’s a win-win.
3. Confidence, Self-Love, and True Beauty Start on the Inside
When I first started, I thought external beauty was everything. But over time, I learned that confidence and self-love shine brighter than any highlighter. True beauty comes from how you feel about yourself, not just how you look. When you feel good on the inside, it radiates outward.
4. Only I Can Control My Mindset and Attitude
The vibe you bring is the vibe you attract. If you come into the club with negativity, stress, or doubt, it shows—and it affects your night. I’ve learned that by shifting my mindset and controlling my attitude, I can completely transform not just my work, but my entire outlook on life.
5. My Time Is Valuable, and My Energy Is Worth Money
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that my time and energy are my most valuable assets. I no longer entertain customers who waste my time, drain my energy, or don’t respect me. My energy is currency, and I treat it as such.
6. What You Do With Your Money Is More Important Than How Much You Make
It’s not about how much you make, it’s about how you manage it. Dancing can bring in big money, but if you’re not smart with it, it disappears just as quickly as you got it. Budgeting, saving, and investing are key to turning short-term income into long-term security.
7. Hustlers Come in All Flavors, Shapes, and Sizes
There’s no “one-size-fits-all” when it comes to being a successful dancer. Everyone has their own unique style, energy, and way of hustling. The key is to find what works for you and own it. Confidence in your individuality is what makes you stand out.
8. Women Should Be in Charge of More Things
Working in this industry has shown me just how powerful and capable women are. We juggle business, emotions, and energy effortlessly. It’s made me realize that women deserve to be in charge more often…and not just in the club, but in every space.
9. Patience Is a Virtue
Whether you’re waiting for the right customer, dealing with tough situations, or building your confidence, patience pays off. Not every night will be amazing, but learning to stay calm, focused, and persistent is what separates the hustlers from the quitters.
10. Boundaries Are Your Best Friend
Boundaries aren’t just important…they’re essential. In this job, people will try to push limits, but knowing what you will and won’t tolerate is key to protecting your energy, your time, and your self-respect. Boundaries aren’t just about saying “no,” they’re about saying “yes” to yourself.
